Joe Biden has been diagnosed with an “aggressive form” of prostate cancer.
Biden’s team shared a statement on Sunday that the former president was experiencing “increasing urinary symptoms” ahead of the diagnosis, which was characterized by a Gleason score of 9 (group 5 degree) with “metastasis in bone”.
“While this is a more aggressive way of the disease, cancer seems to be sensitive to hormone, which allows effective management. The president and his family review treatment options with their doctors,” the statement said.

Biden’s 9 ranking on Gleason’s scale, a classification system for the severity of prostate cancer, has raised concerns, as it is correlated with high degree cancer.

Dr. Arpeet Shah, a urologist with urological specialists associated with Illinois, explained in an interview with Fox News Digital how the classification system indicates the aggressiveness of the disease.
“It is based on what the cancer cells like microscope look like, specifically, as different from the normal prostate cells,” he said. (Shah was not involved in biden care.)

Pathologists assign two numbers of 1 to 5, based on the most common patterns and the second most common present in the fabric.
The lower the degree, the more normal the cancer cells are seen, according to Cleveland Clinic.

The following are the descriptions of the notes.
Grade 1 to Grade – Cancer cells look like normal cells.
Degrees 2 to 4 – Cancer cells in tissue seem to be less normal cells.
Grade 5 to Grade – Cancer cells seem very abnormal.

Larger cancer areas are classified and added together to determine a Gleason score, which usually ranges from 6 to 10.
“The greater the score, the more aggressive the cancer,” said Shah.

This is followed by a breakdown of Gleason’s score.
Gleason score 6: Cancer is low degree and slow growth.
Gleason score 7: Cancer is intermediate and is more likely to grow or extend over time.
Gleason score from 8 to 10: Cancer is of great degree and may need more aggressive treatment.
The system is “one of the key tools” that experts use to “help guide treatment decisions and have significant conversations with patients about their options,” said Shah.

“It is important to emphasize the importance of” precocious “here”, he said. “If President Biden would have undergone regular screening of prostate cancer with a PSA blood exam and a digital rectal examination, his diagnosis could have been detected earlier.”
In an appearance at “The Big Weekend Show” on Sunday, Fox News Medical Collaborator and Board -certified radiologist, Dr. Nicole Saphier, said that, like breast cancer, prostate cancer is presented in different ways and can be treated “very differently” in case.
Saphier confirmed that Biden’s metastasized cancer is stage 4, which “significantly” decreases the possibility of survival.
“There are not two cases exactly the same,” he said. “But the only thing they mentioned about the case of President Biden is that he is sensitive to the hormone.”
“We have so many treatments these days that you can really live for a long time with the cancers of Stage 4.”
This form can be treated by surgery or medication that will stop the production of testosterone that feeds the growth of cancer.
“”[Stage 4] It is the worst case when you talk about cancer, but we have so many treatments these days that you can really live for a long time with the cancers of Phase 4, “said Saphier.

“In your case, because it is sensitive to the hormone, there are methods of treatment,” he continued.
“He will never cure him. He will never have cancer in phase 4. But he could reach the point where he has no evidence of illness or some progression of the disease. And at this time, this is our goal.”
