Invasive insects represent a threat of health in 19 states, warns expert

According to experts, an invasive species extending to America has created a threat “medically important” and “that can endanger life”.

Originally found in places like China and Korea, the Asian Acute Formiga was first introduced to America in the 1930’s, but it was overlooked for almost a century, according to Dan Switer, an entomologist based in Georgia.

“He never gained a lot of attention,” said Switer, a professor of urban entomology at the University of Georgia, at Fox News Digital.

The species has spread to 19 North States -Americans and its bites sent three people to the hospital with anaphylactic shock last year, warned the expert.

Although it has been mainly spread in the states of the southern -East, researchers have also identified it in Washington. There is also a Texas report, but it needs verification, according to Antmaps.org.

“This is something that thought it was necessary to attract the attention of the people because it is only a small critic hidden,” said Suiter. “You know, it’s on the leaf junk. It is in shaded areas with hard wooden trees.”

The United States Forestry Service stated in a research report that Asian Acute Ant Acute Formiga is its “most worrying feature.”

“The bite … is strange,” Switer told Fox News Digital. “I have been stung … The pain will disappear and then return … there have been cases where the pain will return days later.”

Although only three cases last year have come to the Asian Acute Formiga, the teacher said that there may be more.

“I suspect there are people who have appeared in the emergency rooms where the doctors did not know what happened … and it was a bite of ants,” he said.

Environmental concern

While most ants follow a “path”, the Asian acute ant comes alone and is “mostly predatory.”

“It’s a cryptic ant,” said Switer. “You will only see a single type of ant that goes, almost similar lost.”

Unlike other ants species, the Asian ant of the needle infests the forests not disrupted, where it nests under logs, stones and leaf sheets.

The Federal Register defines invasive species as non -native (or alien) to the ecosystem and the introduction of which causes, or is likely to cause economic or environmental damage or damage to human health.

“The apparent capacity of Asian needle ants is of great concern to move species of ants that are seed critical dispersers,” writes the forestry service.

According to Switer, the Asian acute ant has “decimated” ants populations in native habitats of all North -American forests.

When Asian needle ants invade forests, they can also affect the capacity of native plants to grow properly.

They can also be found near houses and companies under Mulch, pavements, landscape wood and other objects, depending on the forestry service.

What to do if you have stung

According to the forestry service, people who are hypersensitive to other bites can have a higher risk of anaphylaxis of Asian needle ants bites and should be cautious.
