The Illinois Public Health Department (IDPH) sounds the alarm at a potential exhibition of measles at Chicago O’Hare International Airport.
In a statement on April 30, the department identified two cases of measles confirmed in Cook County.
These are the first two cases in the County, after the first case confirmed of the state in an adult of the southern Illinois on April 23.

One of the cases was identified as an adult of the Cook County Suburban with an unknown vaccination state that sought medical care at a local hospital on April 28.

The second case was identified in a Chicago adult who traveled internationally through O’Hare Airport in April.

The patient, who had a preliminary dose of the MMR vaccine (measles-mumps-rubella), reported a start of the eruption on April 25.
The two people have been isolated at home since they were diagnosed.

The State Health Department list the following locations where there was public exposure potential:
- Monday, April 21, 2025: Delicious, 3939 W. Irving Park Rd.
- Tuesday, April 22, 2025: O’Hare Airport, from 10 to 20 hours, especially terminal 1
- Wednesday, April 23, 2025: O’Hare Airport, from 10 to 20 hours, especially terminal 1
- Friday, April 25, 2025: ALDI: 7235 39TH ST, Lyons, il 6053, 10 to 12:30
- Sunday, April 27, 2025: Shell: 3901 S. Harlem Ave., Stickney, Il 60402, from 10 to 12:30 hours
- Monday, April 28, 2025: Mobil: 2945 S. Harlem Ave, Berwyn, Il 60402, from 10:20 to 13 h

IDPH urges all people over 12 months to receive two doses of the MMR vaccine before traveling internationally.

Those who may have been exposed must control the symptoms and notify their healthcare provider if they are not sure of the previous vaccinations.
If symptoms occur, they should notify the healthcare provider before reaching a facility to ensure “special arrangements” that prevent other people from being infections, according to health officials.

Measles is highly contagious and extended easily through the air, said IDPH, adding that 90% of people close to an infected person will also be infected if they are not murned against it.

The director of the IDPH, Dr. Sameer Vohra, wrote in a press statement that, while Illinois’s public health officials work to prevent later diffusion, being completely immunized “is still the best and most effective way for everyone to protect themselves and those who love.”

“The MMR vaccine is safe and effective,” he said. “We encourage anyone who is not vaccinated or poorly vaccinated, to talk to their medical supplier and take the right measures to keep up with the recommended shots.”
Dr. Kiran Joshi, from the Cook County Public Health Department, added that there is a measles resurgence in the United States, despite the members of the MMR vaccine.

“Disinformation has helped to reduce vaccination rates and fueled recent outbreaks,” he said.
“The MMR vaccine has been used for more than 50 years, it is very effective and has protected millions of lives.”
