The adolescent pregnancy epidemic could decrease, they suggest the data.
For the first time in the history of the United States, more women over 40 have children compared to adolescent mothers, according to new data from disease control and prevention centers (CDC).
This reflects the tendency of north -Americans choosing to have no children or postpone them until later.

During this time, birth rates between women under the age of 20 decreased by 73%, marking the strongest percentage fall of all age groups.
This resulted in a decrease in one in eight adolescent births in 1990 to one by 25 by 2023.
Women from 20 to 24 also had 44% less births from 1990 to 2023, while 23% fell between 25 and 29 years old.

In 1990, women over 40 represented 1.2% of births. By 2023, this percentage had increased to 4.1%.
Women over 30 represented more than half of births (51.4%) in 2023, compared to only three out of ten births in 1990.
The CDC found that these specific age changes led to a change in maternal age distributions.

In 1990, women under the age of 30 represented seven in ten births (69.8%). But by 2023, this age group represented less than one in two (48.6%).
“The magnitude of the decrease in the birth rate among women under the age of 30 was greater than the magnitude of the increase in rates between women of 30 years and more, which resulted in a decrease in fertility rates,” said the CDC in the report.

“The decrease in fertility rates over the last few decades results from the decrease in rates of women under 30, along with a lower increase in rates among older women.”
Dr. Ashley Wiltshire at Columbia University Fertility Center in New York commented on this change in fertility in an interview with Fox News Digital.

“This change is due to the combination of advances in both contrasted methodologies and assisted reproduction technology (art),” he said.
“The purpose of both entities is to improve general reproductive autonomy for all women, who do not want to conceive of those who do it.”

People seeking unique parenting are included, those in the same sex relationships and those who delay childhood for personal or medical reasons, added Wiltshire.

As egg freezing and embryo bank becomes more popular with women in the late 1920’s and 30’s, Wiltshire agreed that these methods can “greatly increase the odds of conceiving an individual at later ages.”
