Michigan has officially reported a measles outbreak in the state.
The Department of Health and Human Services of Michigan (MDHHS) and the Health Division of Oakland County confirmed their first measles case in Oakland County on March 14.
The department announced on April 17 a separate outbreak in Montcalm county, after three cases were confirmed.

This is the first Michigan measles outbreak since 2019, with eight total cases detected throughout the state in 2025.

A outbreak refers to an incidence of three or more cases that share a source of infection, according to the control centers and prevention of diseases.
Measling outbreaks have been identified in seven other North -American -Americans this year, including Texas, New Mexico, Kansas, Ohio, Indiana, Pennsylvania and California, according to state health departments.

Dr. Natasha Baghdasare, a medical chief executive of MDHHS, wrote in a statement that the Michigan outbreak “emphasizes the form of enclosure and the speed with which it can be extended.”

“The MMR vaccine (measles, belly and rubella) is still our best defense and two MMR doses offer 97% of measles protection,” he said.

The Montcalm county outbreak is related to a larger and larger outbreak in Ontario, Canada.
The MDHHS confirmed that, on April 17, there are no new public exposure sites to inform.

Measles is very contagious, especially for those who are not vaccinated, as most cases across the country have occurred in non -vaccinated and school age.

The common symptoms are fever, cough, red and aquatic eyes, running nose and an eruption that begins on the face and then extends to the rest of the body.
Symptoms can appear seven to 14 days after the exhibition, the MDHH shared, reiterating that the best way to prevent infection is vaccination.

“The MDHHS and the MMDHD strongly encourage people of 1 year and more who have not received the MMR vaccine to do it quickly to protect themselves and others,” the department advised.
