Openai stops Chinese accounts that used chatgpt to create anti-American propaganda

Openai has removed the accounts of some China -related users, which he says have been used to generate propaganda materials published in leading Latin America newspapers.

In an up -to -date report noted by Reuters, Openai points to a number of incidents that believes the chatgt was used to generate Spanish -language newspaper articles, which were subsequently published in well -known newspapers in Mexico, Peru and Ecuador. The articles focused on political divisions in the US and current issues, in particular the topics of drug use and homelessness.

Users are said to promote chatgpt to generate articles in Spanish in Chinese during the Continental Chinese work hours. Openai says they used chatgpt to translate bills from Latin American newspapers, indicating that articles may have been paid placements.

Chatgpt was also suspected to have been used by accounts to generate short -shaped materials, including critical comments of CAI XIA, a renowned Chinese political dissident, who was later posted on X by users claiming to be from SH.BA or India.

“This is the first time we have noticed a Chinese actor by successfully planting long-term articles in the main media to target Latin American audience with anti-Narratives.

Openai says some of the activities are in line with the secret influence operation known as “spamuflazh”, a great Chinese disinformation Operation on over 50 social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Tiktok, Twitter and Reddit. The campaign, identified by Meta in 2023, targeted users in SH.BA, Taiwan, the United Kingdom, Australia and Japan with positive information about China.

In May 2024, Openai reported that Russia -based groups, China, Iran and Israel used the company’s models to generate short comments on social media, as well as to translate and correct the text into various languages. For example, a group of Russian propaganda known as Grammar Bad used Openai’s technology to generate false answers about Ukraine in specific posts in the English and Russian telegram.

But although we have seen international propaganda groups use the OPENAI tool before, Openai thinks the latest incident is unique due to its targets of the main media, calling this “a previously reported attempt, which It developed in parallel with the most typical activity of social media, and may have reached a significantly wider audience. “
